 01.11.2009 "Erfolgreiche und bewegte Zeiten“, so könnte man die letzten Monate bei den Berner Hardrockern Shakra betiteln. "Erfolgreich“, weil das aktuelle Studioalbum "Everest“ bis auf Platz 4 der Schweizer Longplay-Charts geklettert ist, und bewegt, weil die Truppe im Herbst 09 ihren Sängern ausgewechselt hat und neu mit dem indischstämmigen Schweizer John Prakesh rockt. Prakesh hatte seine Premiere bei einem TV Auftritt ("Die grössten Schweizer Hits“) im Schweizer Fernsehen.
Die Spatzen brauchen es gar nicht erst von den Dächern zu pfeifen, es hat sich auch so herum gesprochen: Hardrock ist einfach nicht totzukriegen, der harte Rocksound boomt wie schon lange nicht mehr. Guns & Roses, Metallica und AC/DC haben letztes Jahr Nummer-Eins-Alben abgeliefert und die Kritiker zum Schwärmen gebracht. Aber auch Fans der Schweizer Rocker Shakra durften sich im Jahr 2009 auf Hochkarätiges freuen: Die Berner waren wieder am Start und präsentierten Ihre CD "Everest“, die in der ersten Woche ihrer Veröffentlichung bis auf Platz 4 der Schweizer Longplay-Charts schoss.
 Der Name "Everest“ war natürlich nicht ganz willkürlich gewählt, die Symbolik stimmt für Shakra hundertprozentig. Der Everest ist ein gewaltiges Bergmassiv, zu dessen Erklimmung gewaltige Anstrengungen nötig sind. (Der Nepalesische Name der Tibeter für Everest ist "Sagamanta".) Der Weg, den Shakra in den zehn Jahren ihres Bestehens zurück gelegt haben, war alles andere als leicht und hat sich dann und wann als besonders steinig erwiesen. Doch Hardrocker sind zähe und manchmal auch etwas sture Burschen, die ihren Weg ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste weiter gehen. Es hat sich gelohnt! Waren Shakra mit ihren ersten paar Alben ("Shakra“, Moving Force“, "Powerride“) nur in Insiderkrisen bekannt, so steigerte sich der Bekanntheitsgrad spätestens mit der Powerballade "Love Will Find A Way“ auf ein neues Level. Seither konnten die harten Eidgenossen ihren Bekanntheitsgrad mit jedem Album steigern; zu Buche stehen auch Tourneen durch nicht weniger als zwölf Länder und Aufsehen erregende Auftritte im Vorprogramm von Hardrock- und Metal-Legenden wie Iron Maiden und Guns 'n' Roses. Die Aufwärmrunde für Axl Rose & Co. im Hallenstadion zählt für Shakra noch heute zu den grössten Highlights.
Mit "Everest“ ging die Reise weiter, .neue Abenteuer standen auf dem Programm. Mit der Souveränität von tausend geschlagenen Metal-Schlachten spielen sich Shakra durch Songs, die Biss und Seele, Romantik und Stolz gleichzeitig ausstrahlen, und mit der gleichen Souveränität konnten die Berner denn auch einige wenige Tage nach dem vollzogenen Bandaustritt von Sänger Mark Fox mit dem Ostschweizer Frontmann John Prakesh einen sowohl stimmlich als auch charakterlich hervorragenden Nachfolger präsentieren. Und so geht sie weiter die Reise. Nach dem TV-Auftritt im Schweizer Fernsehen von Anfang November wird das Repertoire intensiv neu eingeübt um ab Ende Februar 2010 wieder die Konzertsäle im In- und Ausland zum Beben zu bringen.
Der SHAKRA-Express rollt weiter. Gut so!

Once
upon a time there were five bards from the Emmental…
Autumn 1996: The first Shakra demotape finds it's way to
Point Music in Germany and lands right on Harry Enzian's
desk. The latter proves to be impressed by the Swiss'
straight sound and invites the band to Munich for a
meeting in spring 1997. Soon afterwards, in April, a
worldwide production and distribution contract with
Point Music is being signed.
Summer 1997: The five Bernese start working on their
debut album "Shakra". In August 1997 they
board the MSM Studio in Munich (Gotthard a.o.) to give
their opus the final touch. Thom Blunier produces their
first work while Christoph Stickel is responsible for
the mastering.
The sun rises in the east…
September 1997: Teichiku Records buys the licences for
Shakra in Japan. At the same time several radio jingles
for the biggest Japanese rock radio stations are being
produced. The album comes out on the japanese market on
December 15, 1997, supported by advertisements in every
important Metal Magazine. Already one week later several
songs of the album find their way onto radio playlists,
followed by interviews and additional contracts.
Conquering Europe…
January 1998: "Shakra" comes out in Germany,
Italy and England, again supported by advertisements in
every important Metal Magazine. The debut album has an
extremely good press throughout the whole Metal scene.
In February the band plays twelve concerts as supporting
act for Wishbone Ash and Guitar Slingers (two members of
the Leningrad Cowboys) and performs every night in front
of a crowd of 500 to 1500 enthusiastic rock fans.
Home again…
May 1998: In Switzerland "Shakra" is being
released under the label Exclusa. The Swiss press too
appeares to be electrified about this debut. After
several club gigs Shakra again prove their qualities as
a supporting act, this time for Yngwie J. Malmsteen and
Bonfire.
The second...
By working hard and strongly believing in their own
qualities Shakra write another promising chapter in
Swiss rock history. They are committed to their chosen
road and focus on their priorities: writing real good
music and having lots of fun performing it.
May 1999: "Moving force", the Swiss' second
album, comes out. Because of the repeatedly good press
in Germany Point Music books the band for the tours of
Quiet Riot, Unrest and Great White (in autumn 1999).
"Moving force" sure is a mature piece of
rock'n'roll and likely to make Shakra one of the most
serious aspirants to the Helvetic rock throne.
On the road again…
During the tour with Uriah Heep in December 1999 SHAKRA
did live recordings of three concerts. The outcome was
overwhelming and the band decided to actually publish
the recordings on a special CD and sell it at a special
price. So the first live CD "The Live Side"
went over the counter…
April 2000: After the tour with the Great White and the
concerts as supporting acts of Bonfire and U.D.O. in
Switzerland again SHAKRA took to songwriting and
producing a new album.
The third…
After a lot of hard work in the studio the new Shakra
album "Power Ride" is released in mid August
2001. With it Shakra crack the german and swiss longplay
charts - thanks to the sensational advertising strategy
of Point Music. "Power Ride" scores best marks
in the trade press: Break Out / Over the top, Rock Hard
9 out of 10 points; Rock It 6 out of 6 points; Hammer 7
out of 7 points and so on… For the first time Shakra
decorate the covers of two famous trade press magazines:
Rock It and Melodic Journey.
Mid October 2001 the band tours through Germany - first
time as a headliner. 12 concerts in 2 weeks are on the
schedule, performed with special guests Domain and
Hotwire. The tour as well as the following concerts in
Switzerland are an outstanding success.
…and now?
Towards the end of the year 2001 lead singer Pete
decides to leave the band due to physical reasons. After
an intense search for a successor Shakra present their
new front man in April 2002: The new strong man at the
micro is Mark Fox. So the songwriting for the 4th album
can begin…
